INDOT to add 75 truck parking spots at I-65 rest areas

Truckers on I-65 in Indiana should expect some changes soon. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will close the Taylorsville rest areas in Bartholomew County starting Friday, December 5, 2025, for a construction project.

The details: Both northbound and southbound rest areas (mile markers 72.5 and 74.5) will shut down completely. INDOT is turning them into truck parking-only locations.

  • 38 new truck parking spots added at the northbound rest area, bringing the total to 75 spots.
  • 31 spots added southbound, for 75 spots total there too.
  • New restrooms just for truckers will be built at both locations.
  • Old restroom buildings will be removed.

Big picture: The construction is expected to last until late 2027. While work happens, both rest areas will stay closed, reported subscription.in.gov.

This project is part of a bigger push to add over 1,200 more semi parking spaces across Indiana. INDOT recently opened another lot on I-70 near Terre Haute with 128 truck parking spots.

The improvements aim to help truck drivers find places to park and rest safely.
