Truck driver arrested at border for gun possession mix-up

A commercial driver was arrested at the Lewiston Bridge border crossing in New York after mistakenly venturing into Canada with an unlicensed firearm. The incident occurred on November 24, 2024.

The mix-up: The 62-year-old driver, originally traveling to Michigan, followed GPS directions that led him to the Canadian border without necessary travel documents.

  • When turned back to the U.S., he revealed he was carrying a firearm and was subjected to a secondary inspection.
  • CBP officers found a Hi-Point C9 semi-automatic 9mm pistol and ammunition in the vehicle.

The arrest: It was discovered that the driver, a Louisiana resident, had prior felony convictions, making the firearm possession illegal.

The trucker was arrested and handed over to New York State Police for further prosecution, reported CBP.
