Blowout sparks semi trailer fire hauling race car on I-40

Around 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, a semi hauling a race car caught fire on I-40 West near Exit 417 in Dandridge, Tennessee.

What happened: Fire crews said one of the trailer’s tires blew out, and the fire damaged the trailer floor. The ARCA race car inside, owned by Isabella Robusto, was not hurt.

  • The driver was not injured.
  • Isabella Robusto was not traveling with the truck and is safe.

Traffic impact: The fire shut down westbound I-40 for a short time. One lane reopened by 11:30 a.m., but drivers still faced traffic jams stretching past the I-81 split, according to WBIR.

Firefighters got to the scene quickly and kept the fire from reaching the valuable race car. All lanes are now back open.
