Box truck safely stopped by catchnet after brake failure

A box truck lost its brakes heading down Teton Pass in Wyoming on Thursday, July 17, 2025, and was able to safely stop by using the catchnet truck arrestor system alongside WYO 22.

How it worked: The driver ran through four of the catchnet cables before the truck finally came to a halt. The catchnet system uses strong cables and special tape that help absorb the truck’s speed and force, similar to how jets land on aircraft carriers.

  • This type of arrestor is helpful on steep grades where normal runaway ramps are not possible.
  • It keeps trucks from having to cross oncoming traffic to use a safety ramp.

The box truck driver only had minor injuries and was able to walk away from the incident.
