Bridgestone shutting down Tennessee tire plant by 2025

Tire maker Bridgestone is closing its plant in LaVergne, Tennessee, by the end of July 2025, affecting 700 workers.

What happened: The decision is part of Bridgestone's strategic plan to streamline operations and improve competitiveness. The company made this announcement on January 23, 2025.

  • The LaVergne plant, which produces truck and bus radial tires, will shut down permanently.
  • Bridgestone is also reducing its workforce at its Des Moines, Iowa, plant and other U.S. positions.

Impact: These closures and reductions come as Bridgestone seeks to optimize its business footprint and reduce costs while supporting its core tire business.

What they're saying: "This decision is not easy because of the impact it has on our teammates and their families," said Scott Damon, Bridgestone Americas' CEO.

The company aims to operate more efficiently and continue contributing to the U.S. economy, according to a Bridgestone press release.

Bridgestone also plans workforce reductions in Argentina and Brazil. These strategic changes are part of a business plan running from 2024 to 2026.
