Car driver arrested for staging crash with semi truck in Louisiana

A man from Baton Rouge was arrested after police said he purposely caused a crash with a semi truck on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in Louisiana.

When it happened: The crash took place just before 10 p.m. on June 24, 2025, along I-10 west near Louisiana Highway 3177 in Breaux Bridge.

  • 34-year-old William Baker drove ahead of an 18-wheeler, moved over the center line, and then slammed his brakes.
  • The trucker, who had no time to stop, ended up rear-ending Baker's car.
  • No other cars or hazards were in front of Baker at the time, according to Louisiana State Police.

The truck driver had dash cam video that matched what officers found. Police said Baker's story did not match the video evidence. He was accused of filing a false report and trying to stage the crash for his own gain, reported WBRZ.

Baker was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and faces charges for staging a crash and making false records.
