Car driver causes semi crash and fire on Oklahoma overpass

A semi truck crashed off an overpass on the Will Rogers Turnpike in Vinita, Oklahoma, on the morning of Thursday, June 19. The crash happened after a car driver lost control and slammed into the rig, forcing it to leave the roadway and fall onto Highway 60 below.

The details: The semi caught fire after the fall. Early reports said the truck driver may have died, but the Oklahoma Highway Patrol later confirmed the trucker had only minor injuries.

  • The car driver, Nurbin Remigio Hernandez-Guzman, ran away from the scene after the wreck.
  • Troopers, with help from other agencies, found him hiding in a wooded area after a three-hour manhunt.
  • He was arrested and now faces charges including reckless driving, leaving the scene, obstruction, no license, and no insurance.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said, "We’re grateful this crash did not result in any fatalities." The crash remains under investigation.
