Eight people from the same family lost their lives in a tragic crash on I-85 in Jackson County, Georgia, on Monday, October 13, 2025.
What happened: A tanker semi-truck ran into the back of a Dodge minivan that was traveling northbound a little after 4 p.m. This set off a chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles total.
- All eight people killed were riding in the Dodge minivan, with ages ranging from 2 to 42. Authorities said they were all family members.
- The minivan was engulfed in flames after being struck. Emergency teams found seven victims at the scene and later discovered the eighth.
The driver: Police have arrested the semi-truck's driver, Kane Hammock, charging him with eight counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree vehicular feticide, distracted driving, following too closely, and driving without a current plate.
- An animal shelter van was also involved. Some of the cats it was carrying were hurt or went missing.
The Georgia State Patrol says the investigation is still ongoing, according to 11Alive.
