CHP stops semi for speeding, driver faces BAC over limit

A truck driver was stopped by the California Highway Patrol on May 22 while heading north on SR-99 near Elk Grove Boulevard in Sacramento.

What happened: Officers spotted the semi moving fast in the #1 lane. Radar showed the truck at 74 mph.

  • During the stop, the trooper noticed signs that the driver might be under the influence.
  • The driver took two breath tests, showing blood alcohol levels of 0.15% and 0.14%.

Why it matters: The legal BAC limit for commercial drivers is 0.04%—far below the results reported during the stop.

This incident took place during a speed enforcement effort by CHP South Sacramento. No injuries were reported after the stop.
