Connecticut trucker retrieves impounded rig and faces charges

A Connecticut truck driver found himself in legal trouble after stealing his semi truck from an impound lot, only to return and pay the fees.

What happened: On April 30, the driver retrieved his 2006 Freightliner from Bud’s Truck & Diesel Service Inc. in Bridgeport without paying the $830 towing fee.

  • The man confessed to police, admitting that an Apple AirTag helped him locate his rig.
  • Police were alerted by a lot employee who saw the driver breaking in and taking the truck.

The driver, aged 33, said he was not thinking clearly when he decided to take his truck back without settling the charges first, according to NewTimes.

Legal consequences: He faces a fifth-degree larceny charge and has a court date set for May 14.

The reasons for the initial tow remain undisclosed, but at least the matter of the towing fee is now resolved.
