The family of Eileen Beck, an 80-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a crash on July 14th, has filed a civil lawsuit against the truck driver and the companies he worked for.
Here's the situation: The crash occurred on Interstate 81 in Silver Spring Township, Pennsylvania. According to the lawsuit, trucker Zeresenay Melake lost control of his semi, crossing into oncoming traffic and striking the car Beck was in.
- Two other people, including the driver of Beck's car and an SUV driver, were also killed in the incident.
The allegations: The suit claims Melake drove for over 36 hours within a 72-hour timeframe without taking the required rest, violating Hours of Service (HOS) rules.
- The suit further accuses 4G Express and Flock Freight Inc. of negligence for hiring Melake despite his unsafe driving history.
- Both companies reportedly either knew or should have known that Melake was driving fatigued.
The family's attorneys stated that Beck, affectionately known as "Grammy," was mourned by her community, and they are committed to seeking justice. The lawsuit seeks at least $150,000 in damages, as reported by WGAL News.
The incident, which highlights serious safety concerns, is still under legal scrutiny.
