Fatal shooting ensues with stolen semi-truck near Kentucky Amazon facility

A tense situation unfolded early Tuesday morning, April 29th, near an Amazon facility in Kentucky when police confronted a man in a stolen semi-truck. The incident started at 7 a.m. on Industrial Road in Florence, leading to a fatal shooting, as reported by Kentucky State Police (KSP).

What happened: Officers from Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Florence Police Department tried to stop Michael Simpson, 35, driving the stolen truck. Simpson, from Ohio, got out but didn't follow police commands.

  • Simpson reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at his head, moving towards an industrial park, according to KSP.
  • Two deputies fired their weapons during the confrontation, and Simpson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Additional impact: A Florence police officer received minor injuries during the altercation.
