FedEx semi truck accident in work zone leads to tragedy

A tragic accident occurred early Monday, April 14th, on Route 581 in Camp Hill Borough, Pennsylvania. A FedEx semi truck hauling double trailers hit a construction vehicle.

The details: The crash happened around 4:30 a.m., involving a FedEx truck that veered into a closed lane. The tractor-trailer struck the back of a construction vehicle occupied by two workers who were picking up cones in the work zone.

  • Sadly, one of the workers died from their injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
  • The second worker was also hospitalized, suffering moderate injuries.

Impact: The crash caused significant disruption, closing all eastbound lanes between Interstate 81 and Exit 5 for hours. Debris and a fuel spill extended the closure, creating traffic delays.

What's next: The Pennsylvania State Police are conducting a detailed investigation, including a reconstruction of the crash scene. The exact cause is still undetermined.

Thankfully, Route 581 eastbound was reopened around 12:30 p.m., as reported WGAL News.
