Fiery semi truck crash closes I-95 Ft. McHenry Tunnel

On December 5th, a semi truck sparked a fire after crashing at the entrance of the Ft. McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore. This incident resulted in the closure of the southbound tubes on I-95 during the morning rush hour.

Details: The fire erupted around 6 a.m., causing significant traffic delays stretching back to I-695. Both southbound tubes were initially closed as crews dealt with a fuel spill resulting from the crash.

  • The truck was carrying produce when it struck a divider, leading to the fiery accident.
  • The northbound lanes were also impacted, experiencing slower traffic until fully reopening later in the day.

Thankfully, the truck driver only suffered minor injuries. The tunnel was fully reopened by 2:30 p.m. after extensive cleanup efforts. The steps taken helped reduce the impact on holiday season traffic, providing some relief to affected drivers.

What's next: The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities continue to investigate the incident. All lanes have resumed normal operation, minimizing further disruption on I-95, according to WMAR2 News.
