Fire destroys semi hauling $300,000 worth of ribeye steaks in Missouri

Early Monday morning, a semi hauling 40,000 pounds of ribeye steak went up in flames on Highway 174 near Doolittle, Missouri.

The scene: Fire crews from the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District arrived to find the entire trailer load burning on the eastbound side of the highway. Both lanes were closed so firefighters could tackle the blaze.

  • Officials quickly called the $300,000+ worth of steak a “total loss.”
  • No injuries were reported in the incident.
  • Firefighters said this was Probationary Firefighter Jenna Ulrich’s first fire, and she fought it with her father on the crew.

What we don’t know: The exact cause of the fire hasn’t been shared yet, and there’s no word on when the highway fully reopened.

The accident and loss were first reported by First Alert 4.
