Forklift operator killed after semi moves container at Winco

A forklift operator was killed in a workplace accident at the Winco Distribution Center in Woodburn, Oregon, on Wednesday, June 4.

What happened: Around 11:30 a.m., Christopher Ryan De Jesus, 36, was working inside a container on a semi when the semi truck driver, apparently not knowing he was there, began to move the truck.

  • The truck's movement caused the forklift and De Jesus to fall from the container.
  • De Jesus was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Both the forklift operator and the truck driver worked for third-party contractors at the facility.

After the accident: The semi truck driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police have not filed any criminal charges as of June 6, according to KATU News.

The accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
