Former trucking owner fined millions for FedEx bribery scheme

A former trucking company owner has been ordered to pay millions after being involved in a long-term bribery scheme with FedEx employees.

What happened: Alexsander Vasiliyevich Barsukov, who co-owned Salt Lake Trucking Group, participated in a decade-long plan to bribe FedEx Ground employees. He admitted guilt on October 1, 2024, for conspiring to commit wire fraud.

  • Barsukov must pay $1,378,702 in restitution and $6,754,845 in forfeiture, plus a $100 special assessment.
  • The scheme involved bribing employees to manipulate internal processes and approve false information to secure additional truck routes.

The big picture: This deceptive maneuvering resulted in Salt Lake Trucking Group receiving around $108 million from FedEx over ten years, reported DOT-OIG.

Legal outcomes: In addition to financial penalties, Barsukov will serve three years of probation, with six months under home detention.

  • He is one of ten individuals indicted in connection with this large-scale bribery plot.

The aftermath: Investigations, led by various federal agencies, spotlight the intricate deceit used to alter business dealings. Thankfully, no accidents or injuries were linked to these activities despite the seriousness of the offense.
