Georgia trucker chased by police after emergency lane standoff

A tense situation unfolded in Georgia on November 20th when a truck driver led police on a high-speed chase after refusing to move his truck from an emergency lane. The incident took place near Emerson, Georgia, involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The big picture: The driver parked his semi in an emergency lane, ignoring a police warning to move it or face a ticket.

  • When officers returned, the driver refused to provide his license, reversed into a patrol car, and took off.
  • Police from the Cartersville Police, Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia State Patrol joined the pursuit.

The chase: The pursuit ended when officers used spike strips to stop the truck near the I-75 exit ramp and State Road 20 in Cartersville.

  • Witness Chris Ensworth described, "I saw a semi stopped surrounded by at least 20 cop cars and cops had their guns drawn," reported FOX 5 Atlanta.
  • The driver resisted arrest but was eventually subdued with a taser and taken into custody.

The driver has since been booked into Bartow County jail, awaiting charges related to the incident. No further details about the charges have been disclosed.
