Hit-and-run semi truck causes $400,000 in property damage

The Cape Coral Police Department is seeking help to find a semi truck involved in a significant accident on Sunday. The crash led to $400,000 in property damage, including downed power lines and damaged parked vehicles.

What happened: At around 8:20 a.m. on May 18, the truck hit utility lines on Tropicana Parkway and kept moving without stopping. This caused extensive damage to multiple homes and vehicles in the area.

  • Six power poles and power lines were knocked down, affecting several blocks.
  • Parked vehicles were dragged, and numerous fences were destroyed.

The search: Officials describe the suspect vehicle as an 18-wheeler with a yellow cab and a white reefer trailer. Part of the trailer’s roof was torn off and found west of the crash site.

  • The semi was last seen heading north on Burnt Store Road.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Cape Coral Police at (239) 574-3223 and reference case number 25-009645. Investigations continue as authorities strive to identify the driver responsible. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the incident.
