Homeless man hijacks idling truck from hotel lot

A truck driver experienced an unexpected situation last month when a homeless man drove off with a bobtail truck left idling in a Pennsylvania hotel parking lot.

Details: The incident took place on December 6th at Rodeway Inn Hotel in Brookville Borough.

  • The driver had left the truck running to warm up and briefly went back inside the hotel.
  • The 36-year-old man, Colin Standefer, allegedly seized the opportunity to steal the rig and headed towards Interstate 80.

The response: Police were able to track the vehicle using a dash cam.

  • The Pennsylvania State Police conducted a stop and arrested Standefer on I-80.
  • He did not possess a valid CDL and had a suspended license due to a DUI in Indiana.

What's next: Standefer is now in jail with a $50,000 bail and faces several charges, including felony theft.

This incident underlines the importance of being vigilant, but no one was harmed in the event.
