ICE arrests semi truck passenger after deadly illegal U-turn crash

ICE has arrested a man who was in the cab of a semi truck during a deadly crash on the Florida Turnpike earlier this month. The incident happened on August 12, 2025, in St. Lucie County and left three people dead.

What happened: The semi truck, driven by Harjinder Singh, made an illegal U-turn using an “Official Use Only” turnout, blocking lanes of the Turnpike. This led to a crash that took three lives.

  • The passenger, Harneet Singh, is Harjinder’s brother. He was inside the cab when the wreck occurred.
  • Authorities described both men as illegal immigrants from India. Harjinder was already facing vehicular homicide charges for the wreck, while Harneet was placed in ICE custody after his arrest on August 18.
  • DHS says Harneet had previously been released by Border Patrol back in 2023.

Enforcement action: ICE lodged a detainer against the driver as well. That means if Harjinder is convicted, he will be handed over to immigration enforcement after his state case instead of being released.

Both men remain in custody as legal proceedings continue, according to an official DHS press release.
