Icy roads cause semi truck crash and strand drivers

A semi truck crash on Tuesday afternoon in Alabama has left about 200 drivers stranded on Highway 231 near Ozark due to icy road conditions.

The situation: A semi truck jackknifed near mile marker 50 on Highway 231, causing significant traffic jams, said the Dale County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).

  • Initially, about 40 drivers were reported stranded, but the number increased overnight as more vehicles tried to drive onto the highway.
  • Both directions of Highway 231 remain closed as of Wednesday morning.

Assistance on site: The National Guard is aiding in the recovery efforts to clear the road. They are working diligently to remove stuck vehicles among the freezing weather conditions.

Road updates: Authorities are advising travelers to steer clear of the affected area while recovery operations continue, according to WDHN News.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in this incident. Recovery efforts are ongoing to reopen the highway safely.
