Inspectors conducted a massive 72-hour Roadcheck blitz from May 14 to 16, 2024, across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The focus was on tractor protection systems and driver drug and alcohol possession.
The results: A total of 48,761 inspections were done.
- Inspectors found 13,567 vehicle violations, 2,714 driver violations, and 163 dangerous goods violations.
- 23% of the commercial vehicles inspected were placed out of service.
- The top vehicle violation was defective service brakes, which accounted for 25% of vehicle infractions.
- For drivers, hours-of-service violations were the most common, making up 32.1% of driver infractions.
According to the CVSA, most drivers and vehicles passed without any issues. "Seventy-seven percent of commercial motor vehicles and 95.2% of commercial motor vehicle drivers did not have any out-of-service (OOS) violations," they noted.
This year’s Roadcheck highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and adherence to hours-of-service rules to keep both truckers and the roads safe. Detailed results were shared in a report by the CVSA.
