Inspection stop leads troopers to major drug bust on I-57

Early in the morning on August 16, 2025, Illinois State Police stopped a semi truck on I-57 northbound near Chebanse in Kankakee County for a commercial vehicle inspection.

The search: Troopers found about 15 kilograms of suspected cocaine inside the truck during the check.

  • The driver, a 63-year-old from Texas, was arrested at the scene.
  • He faces Class X felony charges for controlled substance trafficking and intent to deliver.
  • Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group helped in the arrest and search.

The driver was booked into the Jerome Cobs Detention Center. He is now waiting for his court appearance.
