Inspection stop leads troopers to major drug bust on I-57

Early in the morning on August 16, 2025, Illinois State Police stopped a semi truck on I-57 northbound near Chebanse in Kankakee County for a commercial vehicle inspection.

The search: Troopers found about 15 kilograms of suspected cocaine inside the truck during the check.

The driver, a 63-year-old from Texas, was arrested at the scene.
He faces Class X felony charges for controlled substance trafficking and intent to deliver.
Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group helped in the arrest and search.

The driver was booked into the Jerome Cobs Detention Center. He is now waiting for his court appearance.
