Intoxicated driver crashes into Indiana weigh station off I-94

A driver from Chicago faces charges after crashing into a weigh station in Porter County, Indiana, on January 18, 2025. The crash happened on eastbound I-94, east of the Chesterton exit.

Details: The vehicle, a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, plowed through the entrance of the scale house, damaging metal gates, signs, and light poles.

Indiana State Police said the Tahoe's driver, identified as Lopez Monserrath, 28, was arrested for OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) refusal.
Monserrath was reportedly disoriented, attempting to drive home to Illinois but heading the opposite direction.

Damage: The crash left the weigh station with thousands of dollars in damages due to flying debris.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported from the incident.
