Intoxicated driver crashes into Indiana weigh station off I-94

A driver from Chicago faces charges after crashing into a weigh station in Porter County, Indiana, on January 18, 2025. The crash happened on eastbound I-94, east of the Chesterton exit.

Details: The vehicle, a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, plowed through the entrance of the scale house, damaging metal gates, signs, and light poles.

  • Indiana State Police said the Tahoe's driver, identified as Lopez Monserrath, 28, was arrested for OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) refusal.
  • Monserrath was reportedly disoriented, attempting to drive home to Illinois but heading the opposite direction.

Damage: The crash left the weigh station with thousands of dollars in damages due to flying debris.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported from the incident.
