Load cover from passing truck kills driver on route 460

A truck driver lost his life in Sussex County, Virginia, after a crash on Thursday, July 10th. The wreck happened around 3 p.m. on Route 460.

What happened: Virginia State Police say a semi was heading west on Route 460 carrying car parts when a load cover from a passing eastbound truck flew off and smashed into the windshield.

  • The load cover, described as a metal-framed tarp, struck the driver’s side of the cab.
  • The impact knocked the driver unconscious, causing the truck to leave the road, cross into oncoming lanes, and crash into several trees.
  • The driver, identified as 64-year-old Keith Michael Loback, died at the scene.

Virginia State Police found the driver of the other truck involved later that evening. A criminal investigation is now underway, reported WRIC.

No other injuries were reported from the crash. The investigation by law enforcement is ongoing.
