A 62-year-old man from Bonnyville, Alberta, was arrested after an unusual incident involving a stolen trackhoe and several police vehicles.
The incident: On May 3rd, just before 7 p.m., the suspect commandeered a trackhoe from a local business and drove it to the Bonnyville RCMP detachment.
- The trackhoe smashed through a fence, picked up boulders, and placed them in front of the prisoner bay door, intending to obstruct police response.
- He then used the trackhoe to damage five RCMP vehicles parked at the station.
- All the damaged cruisers were unoccupied at the time.
Caught: The suspect attempted to flee but was located by police canine units in a nearby tree line and subsequently arrested.
- He resisted arrest and was bitten by a police dog before being treated at a hospital and released.
- The man now faces 13 charges, including theft, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
What's next: Police confirmed no officers were injured during the event, and there was no threat to the public as the RCMP was specifically targeted.
