Man charged years later in fatal robbery of trucker making delivery

A 34-year-old man from East St. Louis, Illinois, has been charged for killing a truck driver back in 2011. The charges were announced on May 22, 2025.

What happened: On February 17, 2011, trucker Truman Lee Smith, age 40, was making a delivery in the 2600 block of McCasland Avenue in East St. Louis. He was approached by Alan Davis, who had a gun and demanded money.

  • Smith handed over loose change from his pocket, but Davis shot him and ran away.
  • Before dying, Smith was able to give police a description of the shooter.

Davis had already been in prison for a separate 2012 conviction involving a firearm. Now, he's charged with first-degree murder in the case, according to WICS NewsChannel 20.

Smith was a trucker from Irondale, Missouri, out on the road making deliveries when his life was taken. No additional details about the case or a court date have been made public at this time.
