Man fleeing cops seriously injured after running in front of semi

A man was seriously injured after being hit by a semi truck on Sunday night, September 28th, while trying to cross I-95 in Biddeford, Maine.

What happened: Police say 39-year-old Jared Felling was running from officers who were investigating car thefts when he tried to cross the northbound lanes near mile 32.

  • Felling is accused of stealing from cars in the Biddeford area and removing his ankle monitor earlier that day.
  • He was wanted for violating the terms of his prior release.
  • The truck driver, from West Virginia, thought at first that he had struck a deer, but realized it was a person after reviewing dash cam footage.

Aftermath: The driver called Portland Police to report the incident, which took place around 8:30 p.m.

  • State Police found Felling in a marshy area nearby, suffering serious injuries to his legs and showing signs of hypothermia.
  • He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening, according to WMTW News 8.
