A massive superload is hitting I-80 in Wyoming this week, and drivers can expect slow traffic on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
What's happening: A transformer weighing 1.48 million pounds will be hauled from the Laramie railyard to Medicine Bow, starting at 6 a.m.
- The load is 17 feet tall, 26 feet wide, 385 feet long, and will take up both westbound lanes.
- It will crawl along I-80 at 25–30 mph, and drop to 10 mph on bridges until it leaves the highway at exit 272 in Arlington.
- After that, the route goes north on Wyoming Highway 13 to Rock River, and then on US Highway 30/287 to Medicine Bow.
Between the lines: WYDOT says to expect full stoppages and big delays; alternate routes are suggested for anyone not hauling freight through the area.
This is the second superload on this stretch of I-80 so far this summer, and officials plan to move another transformer in the coming weeks. The current transport is expected to finish by noon Wednesday.
