Metal beam falls from flatbed, disables 20 cars on I-55

Early Wednesday morning, October 22, a metal beam came loose from a flatbed trailer on I-55 southbound near Madison Avenue in Madison, Mississippi.

The accident: The beam fell onto the highway, and about 20 cars hit it, leaving them all disabled on the roadway.

The semi truck hauling the beam stopped on the shoulder, while police worked with drivers whose vehicles were damaged.
No injuries were reported, and the beam was removed from the road soon after.
One lane was blocked while police and tow crews handled the scene, reported WLBT.

By 9:30 a.m., all cars and debris were cleared, and traffic had returned to normal.
