Metal beam falls from flatbed, disables 20 cars on I-55

Early Wednesday morning, October 22, a metal beam came loose from a flatbed trailer on I-55 southbound near Madison Avenue in Madison, Mississippi.

The accident: The beam fell onto the highway, and about 20 cars hit it, leaving them all disabled on the roadway.

  • The semi truck hauling the beam stopped on the shoulder, while police worked with drivers whose vehicles were damaged.
  • No injuries were reported, and the beam was removed from the road soon after.
  • One lane was blocked while police and tow crews handled the scene, reported WLBT.

By 9:30 a.m., all cars and debris were cleared, and traffic had returned to normal.
