Miami police pursuit ends with car crashing into semi truck

Late Wednesday night in Miami, a man behind the wheel of a Dodge Charger tried to make a run from police and ended up crashing into a semi truck.

What happened: An officer spotted Eduardo Barbaro Gonzalez, 42, in a shopping center parking lot on July 23, around 11 p.m. The area is known for drug activity. The officer said Gonzalez was making a possible drug handoff.

  • When the officer approached, Gonzalez laughed, yelled “hahaha SIKE,” then hit the gas and sped away.
  • He quickly ran a stop sign at Northwest 23rd Avenue and 23rd Street, then smashed into an 18-wheeler.
  • After the crash, Gonzalez tried to run but hurt his leg and didn’t get far.

Police caught him and took him to the hospital, where he tried giving a fake name. Officers used a fingerprint scanner to reveal his real identity and learned he had eight active warrants, including charges like aggravated battery, cocaine possession, grand theft, and fleeing police, according to Local 10 News.

Gonzalez was booked into jail and stayed in custody as of Monday. The truck driver involved in the crash was not reported injured.
