Military vehicle triggers chain-reaction crash with semi on I-94

On October 7th, a military vehicle lost control while merging onto eastbound I-94 near the Sprinkle Road exit in Kalamazoo, Michigan, starting a crash that involved eight vehicles.

What happened: The military vehicle hit a semi truck while changing lanes. The semi then struck three passenger cars, setting off a chain reaction that tangled three more vehicles in the crash.

  • Three people were hurt: a 10-year-old girl had serious head injuries but is now stable, while a 4-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman had non-life threatening injuries.
  • Police say neither drugs nor alcohol were factors, but speed may have played a role.

Authorities closed the highway for nearly eight hours as crews cleaned up and investigated, according to ArcWest Michigan.

The road is now back open, but no further details on the cause have been shared.
