New Mexico troopers target trucks in major inspection sweep

New Mexico troopers were busy earlier this month conducting a big operation targeting commercial vehicles.

The operation: From April 7 to April 11, nearly 800 truck inspections were carried out in southeastern New Mexico.

  • Troopers performed 25 Level 1 inspections, the most detailed type.
  • There were 602 Level 2 and 154 Level 3 inspections conducted.
  • A total of 187 trucks were taken out of service for significant issues.
  • 40 commercial drivers were also placed out of service.
  • 293 violations were serious enough to warrant removal from service.

What they're saying: NMSP emphasized the importance of these checks, saying they are crucial for highway safety. Troopers believe this helps prevent crashes due to poorly maintained trucks.

The focus remains on keeping New Mexico roads safe for everyone traveling through the state.
