New truck stops are being built along I-10 between Beaumont and Orange, Texas, and are expected to boost the local economy.
What's happening: Four new rest stops are planned, with at least one opening by the end of October this year. These stops will provide vital services for truckers, including parking and fuel access.
- "They're building new truck stops across I-10, Texas, and Louisiana," said Carl Cormier, Director of Lamar State College-Orange CDL Program.
- Robbie Hood, City Manager of Vidor, noted that truckers will spend money on fuel, food, and merchandise, benefiting local businesses.
- The city will capture sales tax from dollars spent in these stops, according to Hood.
Economic impact: Southeast Texas officials are hopeful these truck stops will drive economic growth by meeting the increasing demand for truck services in the region.
The added facilities aim to support truck drivers who transport heavy loads to and from Texas industries, providing much-needed breaks and amenities, reported 12 News Now.
