Ohio opens four new rest stops with 40 truck parking spaces

Truckers in Ohio have a few more places to stop and rest after four new rest areas opened in Union and Van Wert counties this month.

The details: The new rest areas, announced July 18, add a total of 40 truck parking spaces along U.S. 33 and U.S. 30. Each site has 10 truck slots, vending machines, restrooms, and safe spots to fill up on water.

  • Union County: U.S. 33 Westbound near Millcreek Township and U.S. 33 Eastbound near Marysville
  • Van Wert County: U.S. 30 Westbound near Convoy and U.S. 30 Eastbound in Union Township

More than parking: The new rest stops are also being used to highlight local attractions, like state parks and historic sites. Governor Mike DeWine says, “A safe traveler is a well-rested traveler, so our goal is to provide a safe, clean space for visitors.”

  • Each new stop features family restrooms with universal changing stations to better support travelers with special needs.
  • By the end of 2026, Ohio plans to have 36 new rest areas open and upgrades at over 40 other stops, according to the Governor’s Office.

Ohio says these improved rest areas are part of a bigger plan to boost safety for drivers and support local economies as more folks travel through the state.
