On Friday, November 7th, a crash involving big rigs shut down westbound Interstate 80 near Alta, California just before noon.
What happened: Oil spilled on the freeway after a dump truck wrecked around 11 a.m. A gravel truck then skidded off the road and into some trees as it was affected by the slippery surface.
- The dump truck was able to get back on the freeway, but continued to leak fuel and oil along the road.
- Not long after, an Amazon big rig driver lost control due to the mess and crashed near Alta Bonnynook Road.
- Two lanes of westbound I-80 were blocked for a couple hours, and eastbound lanes were also briefly shut so emergency crews could get in.
California Highway Patrol said there were only minor injuries reported in the crash and the highway fully reopened by about 3 p.m., according to CBS News Sacramento.
