Operation United Front targets unsafe practices on major highways

State troopers from Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois wrapped up "Operation United Front" after a successful two-week traffic and commercial vehicle patrol focused on several significant highways.

The big picture: This joint effort, conducted from May 1-15, 2025, targeted critical issues like speeding, seat belt use, DUI, and distracted driving. Troopers mainly patrolled I-24 through Illinois and Kentucky, as well as I-57 in Illinois and Missouri.

By the numbers: During the operation, Kentucky State Police (KSP) focused enforcement along I-24 encountered:

  • 272 commercial motor vehicle inspections.
  • 53 vehicles and 16 drivers placed out of service.
  • 83 speeding citations, 37 reckless driving citations, and 22 seat belt fines.
  • Four DUI arrests.

What they're saying: KSP enforcement aimed at promoting safety on crucial interstate routes. Several drivers and commercial vehicles fell short of compliance during the blitz, reported Kentucky State Police.

Following the operation, officers gathered for a debrief on May 16 to discuss results and strategies for continued safety efforts.
