Oregon pulls 122 truckers over skipped weigh stations crackdown

Oregon state officials took 122 truck drivers off the road in late April and early May after a major enforcement effort along I-84. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), working with Oregon State Police, focused on drivers who illegally skipped open weigh stations at Cascade Locks, Umatilla, Farewell Bend, La Grande, and Emigrant Hill.

How it went down: More than 490 truckers who skipped the required stops were pulled over and escorted back to be checked. Every truck got inspected for state and federal rules, including licensing and hours-of-service.

  • Out of those stopped, 25% were put out-of-service on the spot. That means 122 drivers had to park it and couldn’t get back on the road until problems were fixed.
  • Inspectors caught false driver logs and electronic logging devices that had been tampered with to hide real drive times.

Why it matters: Officials said the main goal was taking tired or unqualified drivers off the highway to keep things safer for everyone.

Drivers were only allowed to continue their route after fixing violations, reported ODOT.
