Oversized load strikes overpass, no injuries on Highway 99

A truck carrying a prefabricated home hit an overpass on Highway 99 in Richmond, BC, at 9:45 a.m. on March 19, 2025.

The incident: The oversized load struck the Blundell Road overpass, causing debris to hit a pilot vehicle's windshield. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

  • The driver stopped at the scene, and both the driver and the company are now under investigation.
  • Early reports mistakenly identified the load as lumber, but it was later confirmed as a house.

Current situation: While there was no visible damage to the overpass, it will be inspected for safety. BC transportation officials have been cracking down on such incidents with fines up to $100,000, and possible prison time, according to an official release.

Traffic remains heavy, so drivers are advised to check DriveBC for detour updates in the affected area.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, and both the inspection and road clearance are underway.
