PACCAR recalls over 220,000 trucks for ECU issue

Truck maker PACCAR is recalling over 220,000 Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks from the 2021-2025 model years. This recall addresses a potential crash risk linked to an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) issue.

The problem: The Bendix EC80 Advanced ECU in these trucks might malfunction due to electrical interference, which could cause failure in critical safety systems like Automatic Traction Control, ABS, and Collision Mitigation System.

  • Models involved include Kenworth's T680, T880, and W900, along with Peterbilt's 579 and 567, among others.

What to expect: Notification letters to truck owners will start going out on February 7, 2025. Dealers will update the ECU software at no charge to owners.

Truck owners with questions can reach out to Kenworth's customer service at 1-425-828-5888 or Peterbilt's service at 1-940-591-4220, referring to recall numbers 24KWL and 24PBL according to NHTSA.

Thankfully, the fix is straightforward, and no crashes linked to this issue have been reported yet.
