In anticipation of a severe winter storm, PennDOT has declared a full commercial motor vehicle (CMV) travel ban on key roadways beginning at 3 a.m., Tuesday, February 13.
The details: A complete CMV restriction, known as Tier 4, will affect:
- I-80 from Lamar to the New Jersey state line
- I-81 from I-78 to the New York state line
- I-84, I-180, and I-380 across their entire lengths
- PA Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476) from I-80 to Clarks Summit (Exit 130)
Along with this, Tier 2 restrictions starting at the same hour on Tuesday will affect:
- PA Turnpike (I-76) from New Stanton to Breezewood
- I-78, I-80 (from I-79 to Lamar), I-99
- U.S. 22 to the New Jersey state line
- Route 33 and PA Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476) from I-78 to I-80
Under Tier 2: The following vehicles are banned:
- Tractors without trailers
- Tractors hauling various unloaded/lightly loaded trailers
- Cargo delivery trucks meeting the CMV definition without sufficient load
- Passenger vehicles towing trailers
- Recreational vehicles
- Commercial buses, motor coaches, and motorcycles
