Pennsylvania imposes winter travel limits on truck routes

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is gearing up for a winter storm by setting travel restrictions on commercial vehicles this weekend.

The restrictions: Starting at 5 p.m. on January 5, 2025, certain roads will see limits for empty and loaded tandem trailers without chains or automatic traction devices (ATD).

  • These roads include I-376 from Brighton to the PA Turnpike, I-579 to PA 28, I-70 from the WV line to New Stanton, and I-79 from the WV line to Youngstown.

More restrictions will kick in at midnight on January 6, 2025, impacting I-81 and I-83 from the Maryland line, among others.

What to know: Truckers should stay updated on road conditions and restrictions through 511PA, especially when facing such unpredictable weather challenges.

Regular updates and alerts are critical to navigate through safely, according to 511PA.

These restrictions remain in place until further notice from PennDOT.
