Pickup driver causes semi to dangle off Louisville bridge

A pickup truck driver involved in a crash that left a semi dangling off a Louisville bridge has had his felony charges dismissed.

The incident: On March 1, Trevor Branham, 33, was driving his Chevrolet C1500 when it struck a stalled electric vehicle on the Clark Memorial Bridge. The impact caused his truck to veer into oncoming traffic, eventually colliding with a Sysco semi driven by Sydney Thomas.

  • Witnesses reported Branham was speeding and weaving through traffic.
  • The collision forced the semi to crash into a support beam and dangle 100 feet over the Ohio River.
  • Thomas was trapped in the cab for 45 minutes before being rescued by firefighters.

The charges: Branham was originally charged with four felony counts of wanton endangerment and driving with a suspended license. A Jefferson County grand jury found insufficient evidence for the felony charges last week, according to WDRB. The suspended license charge was sent to district court, with a hearing scheduled for Sept. 27.

The rig was kept from plummeting into the river by snagging on a bridge beam, and thankfully, Thomas was not physically injured.
