Police target unsafe driving on I-81 in crackdown

Police in Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia are teaming up for a 48-hour road safety operation on I-81 this week.

Timing: The crackdown takes place from September 19 to September 20.

The plan: Known as Operation DISS-rupt, the effort aims to achieve zero traffic fatalities and reduce crashes by 10% on I-81 this year.

  • Focus areas include distracted driving, impaired driving, speed compliance, and seatbelt use.
  • Troopers will also offer traffic safety information to the public.

What they're saying: "The goal is 0 traffic fatalities along the I-81 corridor," said the Tennessee Highway Patrol on social media.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported due to this operation, and the focus remains on preventing accidents.
