Potholes are creating havoc for truck drivers and residents in Clinton Township, Michigan, right outside Detroit.
What's happening: Drivers say they're more focused on dodging these massive potholes than watching nearby traffic. This distraction has caused some close calls.
- One truck driver reported blowing a tire on his semi because of the rough roads.
- "I've watched others almost hit cars because they're more worried about potholes than traffic," he shared.
The root issue: Township Supervisor Paul Gieleghem highlighted that an outdated funding formula—Public Act 51 of 1951—prioritizes state highways over neighborhood roads, leaving many residential roads in poor condition.
- Of the 203 miles of streets, 122 rate as poor or failed.
The call to action: Local leaders are urging residents to push state lawmakers for infrastructure improvements. They've even set up a "Driving Change" forum for April 30th, aiming to gather community support.
Efforts like creating a letter template for residents to send to legislators are part of the solution, reported WXYZ News.
Thankfully, despite the road hazards, there have been no major accidents reported so far.
