Quick-thinking officers stop semi leaning from missing wheels

On August 6, 2025, conservation officers stopped a semi truck driving along I-29 in Iowa when they noticed something unusual — the rig was missing a full set of dual wheels on one side.

The stop: Officers with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, not just the state patrol, pulled the truck over after getting a call from someone concerned about the missing wheels.

  • The truck was leaning heavily to the passenger side. Photos showed just how off-balance things looked because of the missing rubber back there.
  • The Iowa State Patrol's Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit publicly thanked the conservation officers for their help, saying, “Even our Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers get involved in CMV enforcement from time to time.”

No injuries or crashes were reported as a result. The quick stop likely kept things from getting a whole lot worse on the interstate.
