Newly renovated rest stops on I-76 in Portage County, Ohio, have finally reopened after being closed since January 2021.
What's happening: The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reopened the Rootstown rest areas this month. They had been closed for nearly four years due to renovation delays.
- The eastbound rest area offers 26 car and 10 truck parking slots.
- The westbound facility features 28 car and 10 truck parking spaces.
Background: Renovations were initially planned for a one-year period but extended much longer because of contractor issues, reported WKBN.
The rest stops are essential for truckers traveling through Ohio, providing much-needed areas to rest and recharge during long hauls.
While these stops are now open, ODOT has not announced any further rest area closures in the region.
