Routine I-40 inspection uncovers 3,000 pounds of hidden marijuana

A traffic stop on I-40 in Crawford County, Arkansas, turned into a major marijuana bust over the weekend. On October 11, troopers with the Arkansas Highway Police pulled over a commercial truck for a routine inspection.

The find: Officers spotted something off in the truck's load of pool tables. Hidden inside were six pallets stuffed with marijuana.

Authorities say the haul weighed about 3,000 pounds — with a street value estimated at $3.5 million.
The driver, 43-year-old Steve Williams, was headed from California to Florida before being stopped.
Williams was arrested and booked into the Crawford County Detention Center. He faces charges for possession with intent to deliver and simultaneous possession of a firearm.

Arkansas Highway Police Chief Jeff Holmes said this seizure shows his team’s effort to keep drugs off our highways, according to ARKANSAS DOT.
