Routine I-40 inspection uncovers 3,000 pounds of hidden marijuana

A traffic stop on I-40 in Crawford County, Arkansas, turned into a major marijuana bust over the weekend. On October 11, troopers with the Arkansas Highway Police pulled over a commercial truck for a routine inspection.

The find: Officers spotted something off in the truck's load of pool tables. Hidden inside were six pallets stuffed with marijuana.

  • Authorities say the haul weighed about 3,000 pounds — with a street value estimated at $3.5 million.
  • The driver, 43-year-old Steve Williams, was headed from California to Florida before being stopped.
  • Williams was arrested and booked into the Crawford County Detention Center. He faces charges for possession with intent to deliver and simultaneous possession of a firearm.

Arkansas Highway Police Chief Jeff Holmes said this seizure shows his team’s effort to keep drugs off our highways, according to ARKANSAS DOT.
