School bus collides with empty gas tanker outside truck stop

Nine people were hurt when a school bus hit a gas tanker outside a truck stop in Bishopville, South Carolina. The crash took place just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 14.

The details: The school bus, carrying 33 students and a driver, struck the tanker as it was leaving the Pilot gas station on Highway 15.

  • The tanker had just finished unloading fuel and was empty at the time of the crash.
  • Nine people were sent to the hospital for minor injuries. The rest of the students and both drivers were checked out at the scene.

Emergency crews and local deputies worked with the South Carolina Highway Patrol to handle the scene and help students get reunited with their families.

The road was reopened to traffic by 4:55 p.m., and the incident is still under investigation, according to WLTX.
